What Does New Generations Mean?

New Generations refers to the youngest generation in the family of Rotary. Many are participants in Rotary’s youth and young adult programs: Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange.

New Generations Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, involvement in community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding. Our club is committed to involving youth and young adults in our vocational, community, and international service projects, and to provide programs and resources that support them.

Members of our committee work with the groups and on the programs below to mentor and guide youth as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills to be partners in service.

Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.

Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. Rotary club sponsors mentor and guide Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills. The Club co-sponsors two Interact Clubs at local high schools. The Interact Club of Etobicoke CI since 2015 and the Interact Club of Richview CI since 2017.

What are the benefits?

  • Take action to make a difference in your school and community

  • Discover new cultures and promote international understanding

  • Become a leader in your school and community

  • Have fun and make new friends from around the world.

Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service.

In communities worldwide, Rotary and Rotaract members work side by side to take action through service. From big cities to rural villages, Rotaract is changing communities like ours.

Rotaract members decide how to organize and run their clubs, manage their own funds, and plan and carry out activities and service projects. Rotary club sponsors offer guidance and support and work with your club as partners in service. The Club is working to sponsor a new Rotaract Club at Humber College.

What are the benefits?

  • Discuss your community’s needs and develop creative ways to meet them

  • Connect with other leaders who are changing the world

  • Expand your leadership and professional skills

  • Catch up with good friends and meet new ones

Earlyact is a school-wide service club for elementary students in grades 3 to 8. It is sponsored by a Rotary club and its mission and operation are closely linked to the ideals of Rotary.

Earlyact provides young students the opportunity for gaining an increased awareness and knowledge of their community and the world. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful. Their minds are open to recognize the dignity and worth of each individual which builds respect for others.

Earlyact also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles to identify and carry out projects which benefit their school, local and global communities.

RYLA / RYLS

The 2023 Rotary Youth Leadership Symposium (RYLS) is taking place, May 11-14 at the Ganaraska Forest Centre!

Rotary Youth Exchange

The Rotary Youth Exchange is an international program that has been a key part of Rotary for many years, building peace one young person at a time. Students learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become global citizens. Exchanges for students ages 15-19 are sponsored by Rotary clubs in more than 100 countries.

What are the benefits?

Exchange students unlock their true potential to:

  • Develop lifelong leadership skills

  • Learn a new language and culture

  • Build lasting friendships with young people from around the world

  • Become a global citizen

How long do exchanges last?

Long-term exchanges last a full academic year, and students attend local schools and live with multiple host families. Short-term exchanges last from several days to three months and are often structured as camps, tours, or homestays that take place when school is not in session.

Scholarships

Each year the Rotary Club of Etobicoke provides a number of Secondary and High school scholarships to promote education, foster community service, high ethical standards and the advancement of goodwill and peace in our communities. Some of the scholarships are distributed through the Merit Award Bursary Program and other from the club directly.
