Join us for an update from our own Bob Scott.

Bob was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and received a medical degree with distinction from the University of Edinburgh in 1957.  Bob immigrated to Cobourg Ontario Canada, where he continued as a small-town general practitioner which involved all aspects of medicine. He was a coroner for the Province of Ontario and investigated more than 1,200 cases before retiring in May 2003.

Bob became a member of the Rotary Club of Cobourg, in 1971 and served as President in 1978-79 and subsequently on many District 7070 committees and on many committees for Rotary International after his year as District Governor in 1987-88.  He was elected a director of Rotary International in 1996 being appointed vice President for the year 1997-98. In 2010 Bob Chaired the Montreal Convention 

In 2004, Bob became a Rotary Foundation trustee and elected Chair of the Trustees in 2007-08. In 2006, he began his term as chair of the International PolioPlus Committee a position he held until 30 June 2014.  He rejoined the committee as of 1 July 2015 as an advisor for 2 years. He has taken part in many National Immunisation Days in many counties including Pakistan, India, Nigeria, and Egypt.

  A Paul Harris Fellow, Bob has received the RI Service Above Self Award, The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service and The Distinguished Service Award, the International Service Award for a Polio-Free World, and the Four Avenues of Service Citation. He has been named an outstanding leader in polio eradication by the United Nations Foundation and has received the Glenn Sawyer Service Award from the Ontario Medical Association for professional and community achievement. He received the Sitare-i-Khidmat award from President Zardari of Pakistan and was awarded the Order of Chad at the level of Chevalier by President Deby. Bob received the Sovereign Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General of Canada, and he also received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal 

Bob has been married to Ann an Honorary Rotarian for 64 years. They are both major donors of The Rotary Foundation and members of the Arch Klumph Society. They have 4 married children and 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The annual Beaujolais Nouveau Fundraising Celebration hosted by the Rotary Club of Etobicoke, is making some changes this year, this year it is called Canadian Twist on Beaujolais, members from Toronto Rotary Club join us in organizing the Annual Celebration.  An evening of Wine, Delicious Food, Entertainment, Exciting Raffle Prizes and Silent Auction. All funds raised will go to support the the devasting disasters in Morocco, Libya, Afganistan and Nepal. All proceeds will go to Shelter Box.

Kids with Incarcerated Parents (KIP) Canada supports the needs of the over 375 000 children in Canada affected by their parent’s involvement in the justice system. The ripple effects of parental incarceration are often devastating for the children left behind. 

While every child has a unique journey, many face multiple adverse childhood experiences and several challenges including; ​

• Trauma
• Family instability
• Economic insecurity
• Stigma and social isolation 
• Compromised self-esteem
• Insecurity in familial relationships

Since the inception of the organization, Derek and Jessica have dedicated their lives to supporting children and families affected by the justice system. Prior to founding KIP Canada, Jessica Reid earned a Psychology degree from Trent University and worked with children and adolescents in several educational and mental health capacities while Derek Reid, a graduate of Western University, worked in the financial industry. During the summer of 2011, Jessica witnessed the devastating impact of parental incarceration on children in her role as an early educator. It was through this experience that she developed a passion for supporting these innocent victims and improving the lives of those affected by parental imprisonment.

For 24 years, our founder Jessica Reid was separated from her father, Derek Reid. As an adult, Jessica began the journey of locating her father. In June 2011, Jessica united with Derek for the first time. Although Derek and Jessica were not apart due to incarceration, the impact of being separated from each other coupled with the lack of resources available for children of incarcerated parents propelled their passion to develop a non-profit organization. As a result, Derek and Jessica founded Fostering, Empowering, Advocating, Together (FEAT) in August 2011.

Rotary Meets the Community!

A special after work event where the commnity of Etobicoke meets the Rotary Clubs in Etobicoke.

The event is hosted by Donna Child Gallery. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served. This is a complementary event, but, we would like to ask you to bring your business card for an opportunity to network with members of the Etobicoke Community.

Rotary has been part of the fabric of the community for over 90 years. Rotarians live by the moto: Service above Self.  We are sure you have run into Rotarians througout the community over the years, the Rotary Peace Park, the largest Ribfest in Toronto, the Toronto Ribfest. For over 20years Toronto Ribfest at Centennial Park has been the largest event in Etobicoke. 

In Etobicoke there are 3 Rotary Clubs, The Rotary Club of Etobicoke; The Rotary Club of Toronto West and Rotary Club of Toronto Tibetan.

Speaker - Steve Rutledge

With the assistance of our International Team, we will welcome, Whitby Sunrise Rotarian,  Steve Rutledge as our speaker

Steve is passionate about helping the people of Laos.  Which is known as the most heavily bombed country in the world and has the highest number of unexploded ordinances per square mile, Steve has seen the need first hand and devotes  about four months each year investing his time to provide water and sanitation to the most remote areas in Laos.

This will be an exciting and informative meeting

The 4th Annual Rotary ‘GREAT LAKES WATERSHED CLEANUP’ is fast approaching. On Saturday April 27, 2024, thousands of
Rotarians & Non-Rotarians alike, on both sides of the Canadian and U.S. border will roll up their sleeves to collect refuse along
the shoreline, and innumerable waterway tributaries to the Great Lakes basin.
