Etobicoke Historical Society: A New History of the Old Mill

Richard Jordan has always loved to write and speak about local history and his many travels.

For seven years, Richard contributed a local history column called Heritage to the Toronto Star.  His feature articles on a variety of topics have appeared in the Saturday Star and Sunday Star, as well as international history and genealogy magazines such as Family Chronicle and Internet Genealogy.  He co-hosted documentaries on Cable 10 in Etobicoke and has produced videos on a variety of subjects.

His family history book, Beyond the Great Pine Ridge, was published in 2004 and his most recent book, Ernest D. Banting and Life in Weston 1921-1973, was published in 2022.

An exciting and entertaining speaker, Richard is a graduate of the Toastmasters program.  He has made hundreds of presentations to numerous historical and genealogical societies as well as seniors groups from Oakville to Peterborough.

Richard grew up in North York and studied Geography and Environmental Studies at York University.  He worked in the land survey business and at the City of Mississauga, where he was a Geographic Information Systems Specialist.

Now retired, he is able to travel the world and has added talks about his time touring Iceland, China, Ireland and the Netherlands as well as walking the Nakasendo Trail in Japan and along the full length of Hadrian’s Wall in England.
