Richard Mewhinney Richard was born and grew up in Toronto , Canada and after High School attended University of Toronto where he graduated in 1981 with a major in economics and a minor in computer science. Richard married Elizabeth in 1985 and now lives in Newmarket along with their son John. Richard and Elizabeth have also hosted 7 international exchange students for a year at a time. Richard is currently self employed as a licensed Mortgage Broker . Richard joined Rotary in 2007 and became President of the Rotary Club of Newmarket in 2009. Richard was an Assistant Governor for District 7070 f rom 2011 – 2014, District 7070 Literacy Chair for 2014 - 2015 and the District 7070 Water Chair 2015 - Present . Richard has also participate d with RADAR (Rotary’s A IDS action group) and the Trump AIDS walk in Toronto as a committee member . Richard received the Council of Past District Governors Award for 2010 - 2011 In 2009 Richard made his first trip to Uganda and is now finishing his 2 4 th trip . T h is trip is designed to expand the Pilot project area for RC Newmarket’s current project, Water Collection for Sustainability at Ongutoi . Richard has been involved in numerous projects in Uganda with a major Rotary focus at Ongutoi Health Centre. While in Uganda , Richard has been asked to provide input and guidance to Ugandan Rotary Clubs under the direction of URWP (Uganda Rotary Water Plus) Rotary Uganda’s National Water committee.
